If the creature realised it was being shot, it made no sign of it. When vengeance is all that remains to you, you take it no matter the cost. Once you’ve heard these sounds, you never forget them.

I was more concerned with his zealotry, which was audible even in a dead man’s voice. ‘Give me a real answer,’ I repeated. He almost yearned to be cooperative, just as he willingly wore the manacles at his wrists.
